Cultivating Hearts, Connecting to God
James + Kelsey Jonas have spent the last 20 years earnestly pursuing the Lord and His heart. They met in a discipleship school in 2011 and quickly knew they wanted to seek Him together— desiring that their ‘yes” to each other would bring Him more glory than if they continued their walks individually. From preaching the Gospel to poor, widowed villages in Uganda, and caring for orphans in Haiti + Kenya to ministering in the States by mentoring young adults, shepherding the Body, equipping leaders of the next generation, walking with couples through pre-marital counseling, leading retreats, hosting prayer gatherings, creating workshop curriculums and facilitating inner healing/deliverance prayer sessions, they ultimately desire to see the Father’s heart revealed to His sons and daughters, the captives set free and the Body grow in maturity in Christ. Through seasons of training, wildernesses, trials and mountain tops, they are passionate about living a life of dependency on the Lord and humility before Him. Intimacy with Jesus is the foundation + goal of all that they do.
Their lives + flow of ministry are most concisely summarized by the word “tend” (Genesis 2:10). Priority is tending to the Lord— stewarding the flame of first love and bringing Him glory as we worship Him in every aspect of our lives. With Him, we learn how to tend to our own hearts (Proverbs 4:27), stepping into our identity in Christ, and learning how to live free. Then, we are able to effectively co-labor with the Lord in stewarding well all that He puts in our care to tend to (Galatians 5:14, 1 Peter 4:10)— our families, places of work, circles of impact, communities, states and nations).
The Jonases are a family of 5, raising three boys (with a little girl, Eden, in heaven) and enjoy life centered around the table. James carries the heart of the Father and deeply loves those that he’s walking with. His love for the Word and gift of teaching help bridge a gap between our heads and our hearts. You can often find him speaking life into those around him, whether over coffee dates, in prayer sessions or at the dinner table. Kelsey, also a Spirit-led teacher, has a passionate heart for the freedom found through Jesus. She is most often leading one-on-one prayer sessions or speaking at women’s events, and helps train other churches in this powerful prayer ministry. Together, they have a love for spiritual formation, healing and equipping to help prepare the Body of Christ for His return. Lord, let us be found faithful.
